Pimp Your Cheesey Pasta

 In BLOG

Cheesey Pasta – a flashback to the good old days!  I ate tonnes of this when I was a student and believe it or not I still take a notion for it now and again.  You may frown upon this but when you have the culinary skills of a five year old it’s the nearest thing you’ll ever get to homemade mac ‘n’ cheese.  Yes, my cooking is that bad.

Cheesey-PastaThe only person who has ever liked my cooking is my gran.  What a hero!  She was always the unfortunate victim of the weekly concoctions that I took home from home economics.  Funny enough my mum would never try it herself but always sent it over to my gran’s.  It might not have looked the best but the next I saw my gran she would always tell me it was lovely – my mum’s loss then.

Admittedly this blog post is a bit controversial but don’t knock it until you try it.  All you need to do is add some extra ingredients and you have a meal fit for a King – or a Queen in this instance!

The box says it serves 3 people – aye right!  What a miserable helping that would be!  I would totally ignore that part.  I always eat the whole box to myself but then again, I am a pie.

If you want to pimp your Cheesey Pasta read the instructions below:

These are the standard cooking instructions that you’ll find on the back of every box:

  1. Cook the pasta in boiling, salted water for 4 – 6 minutes.
  2. Drain the pasta and return to the pan.
  3. Add 50g of butter, 50 ml of semi-skimmed milk and the cheese sauce mix. Return to the heat and mix well.

Additional ingredients that you can use to pimp your Cheesey Pasta:

  • Smoked bacon lardons
  • Grated mature cheddar cheese (the more cheese the better)
  • Pinch of powdered mustard
  • Pinch of garlic powder

As soon as the pasta hits the water I usually start frying bacon lardons – I like mine nice and crispy.  Once you have drained the pasta and start mixing in the milk and butter then the sachet of cheese sauce you can add in the extra ingredients.  Remember to be generous with the cheese and save some to sprinkle on top.  That’s all there is to it.  Once you’re done serve up and sprinkle the leftover cheese over the Cheesey Pasta.  Voila!

Love it or hate it, Cheesey Pasta does the business.  Take my advice and add some extra ingredients to it – you’ll be pleasantly surprised.  You’re welcome!

Do you have any tricks up your sleeve?  I would love to hear about the different ways you pimp your Cheesey Pasta in the comments below.
